Neurocytology

Neurocytology is a high-tech facility, which provides support for cellular neurobiology research. The facility offers a Leica SPE II Confocal Microscope System. This resource is specialized to perform 3D imaging of fluorescence stained biological specimens. It is also equipped with high power xenon lamp to perform photo-oxidization process, which is part of sample preparation for electron microscope imaging. This allow a biologist to image the same sample in light and electron microscope to take both microscope technique advantages. This unique resource is key instruments for correlated light and electron imaging. </br></br> The facility also offers a JEM-1200EX Transmission Electron Microscope. This resource is a standard platform for surveying thin biological specimens. This scope features a 120 kV LaB6, cathode electron gun with a camera film chamber that uses Kodak EM4498 film. </br></br> The microscopy lab provides basic to advanced training in all aspects of transmission electron and light microscopy. <br /><br /> Also offered are 2 JEM-400EX Intermediate Voltage Transmission Electron Microscopes. The first JEM-4000EX is a specialized platform for 3D imaging of thick biological specimens, featuring a custom 400 kV IVEM and large format 4k x 4k lens-coupled CCD sensor. This unique resource is highly specialized, featuring custom microscope optics, goniometer/stage, digital imaging sensors, and software control that are each optimized for performing electron microscopic tomography, serial electron microscopic tomography, and ultra-wide field image mosaicing of THICK biological specimens. <br /><br /> The second JEM-4000EX is a specialized platform for ultra-wide field 3D imaging of thick biological specimens, featuring a custom 400 kV IVEM and ultra-large format 8k x 8k lens-coupled CCD sensor. This unique resource is highly specialized, featuring a custom goniometer/stage, specialized software control and the world’s only true 8k x 8k lens-coupled CCD sensor for high voltage TEM imaging. This is a highly specialized resource for performing ultrawide field, electron microscopic tomography, serial electron microscopic tomography and ultra-wide field image mosaicing of THICK biological specimens. <br /><br />
